Nickel Plated Colt First Generation Frontier Six Shooter Single Action Army Revolver with Carved Eagle Pearl Grip

Manufactured in 1899, this is a fine factory nickel plated example of Colt's Frontier Six Shooter Single Action Army revolver. This variation of Colt's iconic "Peacemaker" became extremely popular in the American West due to using the same .44-40 W.C.F. cartridge as Winchester's legendary Model 1873, allowing whoever carried them to source and carry just the one type of ammunition. The top of the barrel has the one-line Colt Hartford address, with "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" roll-stamped on the left side. The left of the frame has the two-line patent date markings followed by a circled Rampant Colt logo. Matching visible full serial numbers marked on the frame, trigger guard, and butt, with unnumbered cylinder, and assembly number "228" on the loading gate. The revolver wears a set of highly attractive period pearl grips featuring a detailed patriotic raised relief carved downward flying eagle with shield on the right panel.

Condition

Very fine with a very fresh appearance showing hints of frontier character, retains 70% untouched original nickel finish, with freckling and smooth western brown patina on the balance, and sharp markings and edges in the metal overall. The grips are fine, with a detailed carved eagle, a few minor chips, and lustrous colors. Mechanically excellent.
