Originally produced by Remington-Rand in 1944, this pistol was reworked by the U.S. Rock Island Arsenal and subsequently upgraded to National Match competition-grade specifications by an unknown U.S. arsenal (possibly Rock Island Arsenal as well). The left side of the Colt replacement slide is marked with "GOVERNMENT/MODEL", "COLT", "AUTOMATIC/CALIBER .45" and "rampant colt", while the right has the Colt address. The left side of the frame bears a "FJA" (Col. Frank J. Atwood) inspection mark and "P" proof, while the right side has the standard serial number, U.S. property, and army/model markings, as well as "ordnance bomb", "NM", and "FK RIA" (Frank Krack, Rock Island Arsenal c. 1941-1946). Features serrated Patridge blade front sight and adjustable Elliason rear sight, "7267718/N M" bushing, full blued barrel marked ".45 AUTO/NM 7790313" without a serial number on the chamber hood, and 'punch-dot' pattern stippling on the front grip strap. Equipped with a long serrated adjustable trigger, checkered narrow hammer, flat serrated mainspring housing with lanyard loop, checkered walnut grips, and a full blued "MFR. 1M291" magazine. Includes a DD Form 1149-2 shipping container tally with matching serial number to the pistol, addressed from the U.S. Rock Island Arsenal, and a cardboard shipping box marked "SHOT FROM ARM REST"
Condition: Exceptionally fine as arsenal refurbished and upgraded to National Match specifications, retaining nearly 99% parkerized finish with very limited handling marks. The grips are excellent with crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The box is fine with some staining and a compressed lid.
