Cuno Helfricht Factory Engraved Colt Model 1877 Thunderer Double Action Revolver with Pearl Grips

The accompanying factory letter states this revolver was shipped on April 11, 1896, to individual H.G. Thewby, care of Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co. in Chicago, Illinois, and confirms it as factory engraved, in .41 caliber, with an "illegible" barrel length, blue finish, and type of grips not listed. This shipment included 3 guns of the same type. No further information was located on the individual H.G. Thewby. This revolver features highly desirable factory engraving, decorated in a floral scroll pattern on beaded backgrounds along with some zig-zag line and dot patterns, and a blank presentation inscription panel on the back strap. The engraving is consistent with patterns used by Colt Master Engraver Cuno Helfricht and his shop. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line Colt Hartford address, with "COLT. D.A. 41" on the left of the barrel. Large half-moon blade front sight, groove top strap rear sight, with a "bullseye" ejector rod head. The left of the frame has three-line patent date markings and circled Rampant Colt trademark. Matching visible full serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard, and back strap, with matching "132" on the rear of the cylinder, and assembly number "203" on the loading gate. Wearing a set of period pearl grips.

Condition

Fine, retains 40% original blue finish, dark muted original case colors, with smooth gray and brown patina on the balance, and highly attractive crisp engraving overall. The grips are also fine, with tight fitment, some minor lower edge wear, and defined designs. Mechanically excellent.
